The Silent Protector

Our vagus nerves is the longest highway in our body - starts from our brainstem down into our gut. It plays a critical role in regulating many bodily functions including heart rate, digestion and immune response. Understanding its importance and how to keep it heathy can significantly improve overall well-being. 

Why the vagus never matters?

1. Regulate autonomic functions:  Controls involuntary bodily functions. It helps manage the balance between the sympathetic (fight or flight) and parasympathetic (rest and digest) systems, promoting relaxation and recovery. 

 

2. Influences mental health: There is a strong connection between the vagus nerves and mental health. Stimulating the vagus nerves can help reduce anxiety and depression by promoting the release of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine. 

 

3. Promote digestive health: The vagus nerve plays a vital role in digestion by regulating the release of digestive enzymes and the movement of food through the digestive tract. It can improve gut function and prevent digestive disorders.

 

4. Support heart health: It helps lower heart rate and bloody pressure, contributing to cardiovascular health. A well-functioning vagus nerves can help mitigate stress responses that can lead to heart disease. 
 

Ways to keep our vagus nerves healthy.

Here are a few suggestions that are easy to do daily. 

1. Deep breathing: Engage in deep, diaphragmatic breathing exercises such as 4-7-8 breathing techniques

2. Cold exposure: Splashing cold water on your face can activate the vagus nerve. This stimulates the body's relaxation response and improve mood. 

3. Humming a tune: Simple enough but powerful. This directly stimulates the vagus nerve. Vibrations created by humming can positively affect the body's tissues promoting relaxation and a sense of well-being. 

4. Essential oils:  Clove bud stimulate the vagal nerve, it may aid in circulation to increase energy and relieve fatique. Lime stimulate the brain giving us clarity and concentration. Additional treats depression. Vibrant blue oils offers a packaged formula that is easy to use. (I do not earn anything from this recommendation). I'm a user of it myself thus I feel confident to recommend.
